Zovo Genogram

Genograms from your family list.

Zovo Genogram turns a list of people and relationships into a genogram with the standard symbols: squares, circles and diamonds, an X for a deceased person, a double line for the index person, slashes for divorce and separation, a dashed line for living together, joined lines for twins, and coloured lines for close, distant, conflict, hostile and cut-off relationships between people next to each other (others are listed in a table). Each generation is a row: partners share a row, a child is at least one row below each parent, and parents who join only through a child's marriage sit one row above that child. Couples sit side by side, children hang from a sibling line, and lines between rows run in the gaps between people. A geometry check on the final drawing counts symbols and names that overlap, family lines that cross a symbol or a name, and lines of different families closer than 4 pt, and checks that each child's line joins only its own parents' line, measured with the widths of the PDF font. You get a vector PDF (Letter, A4, Tabloid, A3 or A2): one page when the whole chart fits with text of at least 6 pt, else the chart in overlapping parts at full size; an SVG, a CSV of people with their generation numbers and a CSV of relationships. The legend shows only the symbols used. A second tool checks the family data without drawing. Relationships only: there are no health or medical fields.

What it does

• Standard genogram symbols for sex, deceased, index person, couples, adoption, foster care and twins
• Emotional relationships: close, distant, conflict, hostile and cut-off, as lines between neighbours and in a table otherwise
• Generation numbers from the parent links, written in the CSV
• Geometry check on the drawing: overlapping symbols or names and lines through a name are counted
• Vector PDF (Letter, A4, Tabloid, A3 or A2), one page or overlapping full-size parts, text of at least 6 pt; SVG, people CSV, relationships CSV
• A data check: unknown ids, parent cycles, more than 2 biological parents, impossible years

Limitations

• Up to 150 people, 600 relationships (at most 150 couples, 8 partners per person and 100 emotional relationships) and 12 generations
• Relationships only: no health, medical or diagnosis information, and no label or notes field
• An emotional relationship is a line only between two people next to each other in the same row; others, including parent-child ones, are listed in a table in the PDF and SVG
• Large charts print on several pages in overlapping parts; A3 or A2 needs fewer pages
• The PDF font covers Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese; Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew and emoji show as ? in the PDF (the SVG and CSV keep them)
• Files of large charts are kept for 1 hour so the download links work, then deleted
